Five Minute Fridays # Mighty

Today I'm joining Lisa Jo Baker's Five Minute Friday writing flash mob and the word is "Mighty"

Mighty is one of those words that simultaneously always comes in the same phrase as God.  It's in children's songs and choruses I've sung all my life about God.  Great and Mighty is He.  It's in myriads of Bible verses as a God description. It is a word that makes me think of an unstoppable force to be reckoned with, a word for the hopeless situation, a beam of light shining down into thick darkness...And when I think mighty I automatically think of Jesus' grave...stone rolling and death literally exploding with life...something so other worldly, so mighty and only something that God can do.... Let me tell you the other words in my mind synonymous with mighty... Hope... Hope is what has to be in your heart in order to withstand any insurmountable force of life...whether it be death, sorrow, debilitating illness, loss, heart ache, financial turmoil...what…

Park Play, I Saw God Today

Today I'm linking up with Coffee for Your Heart with Holley Gerth and Words of Life Wednesdays with some joy we found outside this weekend...

We had to go to the park, before Winter was a coming-back kid.  Forecast let us know that we had three spring days and we neighborhood walked and park hopped.

The parks were full, with people exuberant to be outside again...to let kids run again, swing again, yell again, breathe fresh air again....

Baby girl's eyes smile as she says "Tee, Tee" wildly, as loud as she can and points to the old park trees gnarly twisting up to a perfectly blue just spring sky...Her nose can't help but crinkle, min crinkles too as I smile at her joy...my whole face feels it....

It was like that first step out into a cold creek, that cold toe shock and the laughter that falls and swirls like all the little trickling pools around you...that joy was on all the faces, joy to just be outside and know that spring was on her way...
At all three parks.…

Having the Last Word

Having the Last Word…
Its a common phrase we know…its really getting the upper hand, the crescendo, the final punch…
In movies it may be that piqued line said with fervor and passion that finally stands up for itself and sets the record straight…
Our culture is so about having the last word…in everything…and for everyone really…
Anything we are irritated, annoyed, hurt over…we air out…we status update…we lash out…we "have it out" and while we have it out…we spill our hurt and poison on others….and a lot of times on those we never want to hurt...
That crazy driver…we slam the horn…our kids watch and their eyes widen…
That rude waiter!  That horrible customer service…we deserve more and better…
That snobby lady in the grocery store…we will set her straight and now…maybe just by your annoyed tone if you're like me....or maybe a little more vocal...if you're bold

I'm a lion and hear me…hear my hurt…hear my pain…hear my opinion...and watch me roar…
Its like the rhythm…

Five Minute Fridays - #Crowd

Its Friday again...time for Linking up with Lisa Jo Baker's Five Minute Fridays...the word is ...Crowd
http://lisajobaker.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/5minutefriday.jpg

Crowded thats the way I always assume people feel when they come into my house for a get together.  It is a small space.  Quite small.  Narrow and only 3 rooms per level...and small rooms at that.
5 Warm Septembers ago I sat there with baby swelling out my belly and signed the papers with my husband that we would embark on the journey of home ownership...i enjoy that phrase...mortgages really can own you...
We moved in to the little house with cracked concrete sidewalks...musty seventy year old house smell...two ancient trees spreading canopies over the small patch of front yard....
"I knew you would like it." husband said as he showed me the little place, motioning to the fireplace mantle...the center piece of the living room.  "And it has the hardwood floors you wanted" he said...and it did…

Five Minute Fridays #Willing

Today I'm linking up with Lisa Jo Baker for Five Minute Fridays the word prompt is Willing...

http://lisajobaker.com/ feel free to join the five minute frenzy...

When I read this word the first person that popped into my mind was my mother-in-law, Kathy.
She is always willing, in fact I've never known something that she wasn't willing to do (in a good way of course) for me or anyone else...even if she probably should not...

Heres a five minute snapshot into the Kathy I know, the frames I've seen her in...

People coming to the house impromptu...like a revolving door...she's not a freak out woman.ever.
She just goes over to the pantry pulls out a can of her owned canned green beans and dumps the olive green contents into her pot, slices off a chunk of golden butter and lets it drown...
"Is baked spaghetti okay?" she quietly asks...and it always is...its always good.  its simple but good...simply good...she always has some chocolate stash to offer everyone.…

Coffee for Your Heart - Patience

Today I am joining Holley Gerth's blog for  Coffee for Your Heart and the subject is "A Small thing that makes a Big Difference is..." http://holleygerth.com/coffee-for-your-heart-love/ Patience....
That was my first response...and dare I even name that as a small thing? It really is no small thing...but it is the choice in most of our small moments....the choice of patience....
Don't we all hear ourselves say the words... "My patience was tried when..." or that common used "Don't ever pray for patience..." or that resigned, "I'm not a patient person"....
You know we all can say that...in our sprinting world its hard to remember back to when neighbors like my grandparents sat on their front porch in the afternoon shade...swatting flies, musing on the weather...and listening to the insect symphonies..watching birds alight and take flight from tree to tree...rose and peony gaze...drink in time.... It is true...our fast paced life h…
